STEPHENVILLE (February 22, 2017) — No. 9 Stephenville kept pressure on the entire match and four players scored goals in a 4-0 3-4A girls district blanking of Mineral Wells Wednesday at Lem Brock Field.

After numerous early chances by the Honeybees, the dam finally broke when freshman Jimena Espinoza fired one low and right past the Mineral Wells keeper from the top of the box in the 32nd minute.

The second goal didn’t take near as long, with the Gracie Bales finding Ciara Johnston in the box with a cross in the 34th minute and Johnston finishing the freshman-to-freshman goal for a 2-0 lead.

The second half followed a near identical script with Stephenville the only team to generate pressure while leveling its district mark at 2-2 and improving to 14-3 on the season.

Finally, they broke through twice more, first when freshman Hayleigh Beam stabbed home a nifty cross in traffic from sophomore Alexis De Los Santos in the 64th minute and Claire Choate hammering one home from the top of the box in the 65th.

It was the second victory for Stephenville over the Mineral Wells side, the first 1-0. The Bees will visit Mineral Wells once more in the district race.

Stephenville visits Abilene Wylie on Friday. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
