STEPHENVILLE (February 22, 2017) — Stephenville took control early and dominated Mineral Wells for a second time in a 3-4A boys soccer match Wednesday at Lem Brock Field.
Ivan Cabrera picked up a brace with two goals and three other Yellow Jackets joined him in the scoring in a 5-0 rout, while Mineral Wells hardly mounted so much as an attack.
When the Rams did charge, they were quickly silenced in the shutout, while Stephenville stayed on the attack much of the way.
Cabrera scored the first and fourth, beginning with a free kick in the 19th minute. His brace came on the fourth goal by the Jackets when he struck from distance in the 48th minute.
Scoring in between were Kevin Martinez on a rebound after a shot by Aaron Veloz was saved but not covered. Veloz then broke through in the 36th, putting home a long assist on a free kick by AJ Brown.
Brayden Perry finished the scoring in the 75th minute, pushing Stephenville to 3-1 in district play.
The Jackets visit the only district team they have lost to – Abilene Wylie – on Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. following a 5 p.m. girls match.
