Big fourth quarter sends Lingleville to regional quarterfinals

(February 25, 2017) — Lingleville pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 59-43 win over Lometa in a Region III-A boys area playoff Friday at Hamilton High School.

The Cardinals advance to the regional quarterfinals for the sixth straight year and face Graford at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Glen Rose.

Sergio Rangel poured in 17 points, Jarod Hagood posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Luke Whiteley added 15 points, eight boards and five assists to lead the Cardinals, who outscored Lometa 19-8 in the fourth quarter after leading just 40-35 through three.

Tom VanKranenburg collected five points and seven boards for Lingleville, while Meine Huisman added four points, Bailey Fenn two and Matteo Mondini one.

The Cardinals found themselves trailing 17-16 after one and the game remained close with Lingleville moving ahead, 27-26, at intermission.

The battle with Graford is a rematch of last year’s regional quarterfinal, won by Lingleville en rout to the regional tournament.
