Woo wins 220-pound class at regional meet, Keith Ray takes fifth in 148s

(March 11, 2017) — Ragan Wood made it official on Saturday – he is the best power lifter in the region.

Wood was as dominant Saturday at the Region II-Division II powerlifting championship as he has been all season. The senior threw up a total of 1,505 pounds including a 640 pound squat. He qualified automatically for state with one attempt in the deadlift still remaining, and went on to win the 220-pound class and additional honors for outstanding quat on the “heavy platform” and outstanding lifter on the heavy platform.

Wood will perform at the state meet at Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene on Saturday, March 25, but the wasn’t the only Stephenville lifter to power his way to success at the regional meet at Smithville High School.

Keith Ray, also a senior, placed fifth in the 148-pound class, lifting a total of 1,010 pounds.

Other Jacket lifters to qualify and compete at the regional include Issic De La Cruz, 1,065-pound total in the 181-pound class and Nathan Martin, 1,155 total in the 220 class.
