ERATH COUNTY (March 14, 2017) – James Howard shared his resounding faith with everyone who knew him. His life is remembered as a “beautiful illustration of Christ.”

Howard was a pastor for more than 45 years when he passed away in 2011. His legacy lives on through his five sons who are each in the ministry today, including former Stephenville resident Mo Howard, as well as an annual event set to take place in Stephenville in early April.

While the legacy concert is tuning up for its third annual event, additional attractions have been added to guarantee the fundraiser offers something for everyone.

The James Howard Legacy Golf Tournament, Extravaganza and Concert offers a full-day of family friendly fellowship and fundraising, according to Grant Sullivan, chairman of the legacy board.

Sullivan said the event is organized not only to celebrate Howard’s life, but to take his legacy to the next generation through the award of scholarships to students with a “heart for the ministry of Jesus Christ.” The recipients, who are not required to be pursuing a full-time ministry to qualify, will be named during the James Howard Legacy Concert.

Sullivan said the lineup of events that make the scholarships possible begins with the golf tournament at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 8. On-site registration begins at 7 a.m.

This year is the first for the four-man scramble, which will be held at Legends Country Club in Stephenville. The entry fee of $400 per team includes green and cart fees, a hamburger lunch, complimentary course drinks, entry into the Miracle Shots Game and one reserved seating ticket for each player at The James Howard Legacy Concert that evening.

Sullivan said scramble awards for first, second and third place will be presented at the concert, which begins at 6:30 that evening.

Golfers can find entry forms on the Mo Howard Music website, which provides instructions for remitting payment by mail or via PayPal.

Meanwhile, Sullivan is calling on merchants to participate in the James Howard Legacy Extravaganza, a vendor fair that will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. April 8 in the Birdsong Amphitheatre area at Stephenville City Park.

The fee for the 10×10 space is $30 and merchants are also being asked to donate a gift basket or other item for a silent auction that will be held in conjunction with the vendor fair.

“Proceeds from the vendor fees and the silent auction will go directly to the scholarship fund,” Sullivan said.

Local Christian artists will perform on the amphitheater stage throughout the outdoor event, and Sullivan said a $6,000 cattle squeeze chute donated by a corporate sponsor will be awarded the highest bidder during a live auction.

“We welcome additional items for the live and silent auctions,” Sullivan.

He also said organizers are searching for sponsors for the kids’ zone at the extravaganza, and interested business or organizations can contact him to pledge support.

The day’s events will be followed by The 3rd Annual James Howard Legacy Concert inside the rec hall at city park. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the music begins at 6:30.

The night’s lineup includes 2016 Inspirational Country Music (ICM) Female Vocalist of the Year nominee Jayne Carter; 2016 ICM Songwriter of the Year Greg McDougal; 2016 ICM Comedian of the Year Kenny Lee “Cornbread the Comic” Robinson; and Rapture Life Music Recording Artist Trevor Lee, who performs Christian hip hop.

The James Howard Legacy Concert also features 2015 and 2016 ICM Music Evangelist of the Year Nominee Mo Howard.

General admission concert tickets are $10 each and floor seats are available for $20 if purchased online through Itickets.com. Tickets will be $15 & $25 at the door.

Finally, Sullivan said Pampered Chef distributor ‎Debbie Belknap Noel‎ is contributing to the scholarship fund by donating up to 15-percent of the total sales from an online shopping event that continues through April 8.

Supporters logon to https://pamperedchef.com/go/musicministry, create an account and shop for themselves or a gift. For more information on the Pampered Chef fundraiser, contact Noel at 254-977-4586.
