STEPHENVILLE (March 16, 2017) – Elena Preadca‘s efforts in leading Tarleton to a 5-4 win over Palm Beach Atlantic in Florida Tuesday evening was enough to garner the senior her first career Lone Star Conference Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award.

Preadca rallied her team to a win over Palm Beach Atlantic with a spectacular doubles rally and a marathon singles match to deliver a 5-4 TexAnn victory.

Tarleton dropped the first two doubles’ matches against PBA and were looking at suffering a sweep of doubles with Preadca and her partner, Luiza Ferraro-Adas, facing a 2-7 deficit in the No. 1 match. Preadca and Ferraro-Adas, who are currently the No. 4-ranked doubles team in the South Central region, rallied to win seven consecutive games to win the doubles match 9-7 and give the TexAnns momentum heading into singles.

Tarleton won three of the first five singles matches and the event was tied 4-4 with only Preadca left playing in the No. 2 match against Valerie Nagovitcina. Tarleton’s senior rallied back to win a 7-3 tiebreaker and claim the match 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3) to deliver Tarleton’s win in Florida. For the week, Preadca won two of her three doubles matches and Tuesday’s No. 2 singles match to improve to 7-4 in No. 1 doubles and 5-4 in No. 2 singles this season.

She is the third TexAnn to receive league-wide recognition this season, joining Tori Simmons and Alicia Barbaroux.

Preadca and the TexAnns will return to action next Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Stephenville in conference action against Cameron.
