STEPHENVILLE (April 17, 2017) — The first state championship team in the history of Stephenville High School girls soccer has already been on TV, and next up is a parade.
The Honeybees defeated Athens, 2-0, and Boerne, 2-1 in the 4A girls state tournament in Georgetown last week, capping a magical 25-4 season that included an upset of two-time reigning state champ and top-ranked Kennedale in the Region I-4A Tournament the week prior.
Stephenville celebrated with a medal and trophy presentation, the delivery of the State Tournament MVP trophy to senior sweeper Savannah Alford and more at Birkelbach Field last Thursday, then received a hero’s welcome home celebration back at SHS that night.
The Bees were in Dallas on Sunday, filming segments for High School Sports Special that aired at 11 p.m. Sunday on WFAA-TV, an affiliate of ABC.
Next up – a state championship parade at 10 a.m. Saturday. The parade will begin and end at SHS, traveling past Gilbert Intermediate School and Henderson Junior High along the way. An exact route has not been finalized by the district, and will be shared when available.
