Stephenville – Services for Marie Johnson, 95, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2017 at Lacy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Howard Martin officiating. Burial will follow at West End Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Lacy Funeral Home.

Marie was born on June 29, 1921 to Willie Monroe Wells and Delula Belle (Henley) at the Tarleton College Farm where she grew up. She attended Stephenville public schools graduating from high school in 1937 and from John Tarleton Agricultural College in 1939.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Stephenville since 1929 where she served as a Sunday school secretary and teacher, choir member, Board of Trustees, United Methodist Women member and officer, and the bereavement committee. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she was a past matron. During her adult life she was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. In addition, she worked for the Texas Power and Light Company for 39 years serving in Brownwood and Stephenville.

She married William (Bill) Johnson on March 22, 1947, in Stephenville. Together, with Marie as secretary and Bill as president, they guided the Senior Travel Club and Marie was a valuable assistant to Bill when he served on the City Council.

Survivors include her sons, Alan Johnson and wife, Nellie of Austin, Texas, Len Johnson of Stephenville, and Vic Johnson of Port Aransas; grandchildren, Matthew Johnson and wife, Shannon of Austin, Anastasia Irish and husband, James of Austin, Andrew Johnson of Corpus Christi, and Jay Johnson of Stephenville; great-grandchildren, Eric, Savannah, and Samantha Marie; niece, Lana Collier and husband, Raye of Dallas; as well as several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, on May 8, 2000, brother, Clyde Wells, sister-in-law, Marie Wells, sister-in laws, Beryl Mikeska and husband, Dalby, and Faye Moriarty and husband, Ray.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Stephenville at 422 W. Washington St. Stephenville, Texas 76401, American Cancer Society, or charity of choice.
