FLASH TODAY STAFF REPORT
ERATH COUNTY (May 10, 2017) – Just before 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, first responders from Erath County Volunteer Fire, Harbing VFD, Cross Timbers First Responders and others were dispatched to a trailer house fire at Cattail Creek Mobile Home Park on County Road 186.
According to witnesses, Alejandro Rocha, who lives nearby, woke to his neighbor’s home on fire, ran outside and broke a window to save a 15-year-old female trapped inside the home. That female was taken to the hospital via personal vehicle with “severe burns.”
The homeowner, NinaGonzales was already at work when the fire broke out, but told The Flash her 65-year-old brother and 15-year-old niece were inside the home at the time. Both are out and Erath County Sheriff Matt Coates said he did not believe anyone else was involved in the incident or injured in the blaze.
County Fire Investigator Steve Cole said the teenager and a male, who was also taken out of the home, were both transported via air ambulance to a burn center in Dallas-Fort Worth area, he believed it was Parkland Memorial. He also said there were two other people living in the home, but they were both already gone to work.
Gonzales said she does not have homeowners insurance and the home was completely destroyed along with two vehicles at the residence which were damaged as well.
Cole reported the blaze was under control before 8 a.m. and out but for the hot spots by 9. He said no other homes at Cattail Creek were damaged, but the home involved was believed to be a complete lose. Adding that his department and the fire department are working closely together to investigate the cause of the blaze.
