Emma Jane Poe Lawrence

(October 7, 1926—May 14, 2017)

Emma Jane Lawrence, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Norman, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, May 20th at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church with Father Matthew Sanka officiating, assisting him with be her son, Deacon John Pigott. Burial will follow at Alexander Cemetery in Alexander.

An Erath County daughter almost her entire life, Emma was born on October 7, 1926. She grew up in Alexander, Texas graduating valedictorian and then attended Tarleton State as a music major. She worked almost continually for the Texas Department of Public Welfare from the mid 50’s to her retirement in 1985. Her first child John Dowling Pigott was born in 1951 and her second, Charles Smith Peek, Jr., in 1954. She outlived all three husbands, Edwin Albert Pigott, Charles Smith Peek, and finally, Carlton Lawrence the Mayor of Henderson, Nevada. Emma returned to Stephenville in the 1998 to be with her son Charles and loving daughter in law, Carolyn and returned as active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where she had been a member since the 1960’s. In 2000 she moved to Norman Oklahoma to be with her son John and loving daughter in law, Kulwadee Pigott, joining St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Emma loved to travel, visiting her brother Dick in England in the 1960’s, visiting Cancun and Hawaii and the Florida Keys in the past ten years. A perpetual smile, unshakeable faith, untiring devotion to family, and a selfless availability to listen and help those less fortunate in life were Emma’s infectious talents for which she will be remembered.

Her life was a full one, filled with love of her family, and especially those who survive her brother, Dick Dowling Poe; her two sons, John Dowling Pigott and Charles Smith Peek, Jr., and her three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
