Mary Ernestine Rampley

(July 30, 1928—May 29, 2017)

Ernestine Rampley joined the glorious presence of her Heavenly Father on Monday, May 29, 2017 in Stephenville. In her peaceful passing, Ernestine was surrounded by her three beloved daughters.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 2nd at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Dean Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Mary Ernestine Rampley was born on July 30, 1928 in Dublin to the late Ernest and Alice Kate Cook. She was raised by her grandparents, Will and Bille Pyeatte until she was twelve. She was then with her Mon and step father, Mike Michaels until her marriage to John Rampley in 1946. John preceded her in death on May 27, 2016.

Ernestine’s childhood was spent in Dublin, Deleon, Breckenridge, and Stephenville, Texas. She graduated from Stephenville High School in 1946. While raising their children they resided in Stephenville, Fort Worth, and May Flower, Arkansas.

Ernestine’s happiest years were with her husband, Johnny, in their retirement on Proctor Lake where they hosted friends and family for their famous Catfish fries. Ernestine enjoyed her church, travel, genealogy, and her growing family of grandchildren. She was a gifted singer and painter as well as designer of costumes for plays, proms, and pageants.

Ernestine worked at Safeway for twenty years where she encouraged all customers and employees alike with her friendly personality and funny stories. Her life was one marked by service and generosity. She was much loved by her children, nieces, and grandchildren to whom she was an example of long suffering and putting others first. “We will miss her so very much but are at peace knowing she has gone to her reward in the presence and peace of Jesus Christ which passes all understanding.”

Ernestine is survived by her daughters, Cindy and husband Ronnie Herring, Cathy Rampley, and Cheryl and husband David Hume; grandchildren, Chris Herring, Joel Herring, Raina Crain Lopez, Catherine Hume Harris, and Daniel Hume; great grandchildren, Kristin Herring, Bret Herring, Brenna McIlwain, Sydney Herring, and Shelby Herring; great great grandchild, Lilly Mae Thornton; nieces, Linda and husband Tommy Butler, Sue Cook and husband Ron Taylor, and Bobbie Cook and husband Gary Peterson.
