Barber swims to four victories in Denton

Stingrays Fowler, Carpenter also record victories

(June 22, 2017) — Dillong Barber raced to four first-place finishes while Sophi Fowler and Gavyn Carpenter also won events representing the Stephenville Stingrays in a Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Region IV circuit meet last weekend in Denton.

Barber was a dominating force in the water among 15-17 year old boys, winning the 100 meter freestyle, the 50 free, the 50 butterfly and the 50 backstroke at the Denton Natatorium.

Fowler was strong in the 13-14 year old girl division, especially in winning the 50 fly. But she didn’t stop there, also taking sec on in the 50 free and third in the 100 free.

Carpenter earned her first-place finish in the 15-17 year old 50 breast stroke, while others with top three finshes included Alix Castaneda, third in the 7-8 year old 25 back stroke, and Joy Vranes, third in the 6 and under 25 back.

The Stingrays, sponsored by the Stephenville Parks and Recreation Department, compete next in Grapevine.
