STEPHENVILLE (August 3, 2017) – On Thursday night, area residents got to get an up close and personal look and listen to some of the people behind the songs that we have come to know and love – the songwriters themselves. Thursday’s lineup included: Larry Joe Taylor, Davin James, Richard Leigh, and Keith Sykes.  All four musicians performed an acoustic set and told some of the stories behind some of the hit songs that have been performed and played on the radio for many years.

Most area residents know about Larry Joe Taylor and Davin James who are both well known Texas Music artists.  Richard Leigh and Keith Sykes have written many songs performed by nationally known artist and some have been hit songs.  Keith Sykes wrote “Volcano” for Jimmy Buffett and “Take Me, Take Me” for Rosanne Cash.  While Richard Leigh wrote several songs performed by Crystal Gayle including “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.”  He also wrote “Cold Day In July” (performed by the Dixie Chicks) and “That’s The Thing About Love” (performed by Don Williams).
The stage was made to look more like a living room than a stage thanks to the Blue Eyed Buffalo.  Thanks also to Doug Montgomery and TexStar Ford, SPARD, and the City of Stephenville for bringing these wonderful musicians to Stephenville.
Thanks also to Zack Taylor and Steve Layne for backing up the songwriters on drums and bass respectively. Layne even treated the crowd to some pretty entertaining tuba playing by playing numerous tv show theme songs.
