STEPHENVILLE(August 6, 2017) — Nobody knows yet if Easton Jones has a future in baseball, but the Texas Sportswriters Association is well aware he had a strong recent past on the hill.
Jones and Storrs, a junior and sophomore last spring, were named honorable-mention 4A All-State this past week by the TSWA. Jones and the freshly-graduated Caleb Gibbons were a formidable 1-2 punch as the starting pitchers for Stephenville, and both teamed with Storrs behind the plate to form batteries that were tough on opposing batting line-ups.

Jones, the District 8-4A pitcher of the year, posted a 0.88 earned run average while recording 87 strikeouts. Whether he returns next spring hinges on the repair of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right (throwing) elbow. He tore the UCL while pitching for Texas Clutch, the name of the Jackets’ summer team. The injury normally requires Tommy John Surgery, which the Jones family hopes to avoid. Easton’s father, Troy Jones says they will know more in two weeks.
Storrs is effective behind the plate and prolific when standing in the box beside it. He hit .390 in the regular season. Also of note – he was 8-15 (.533) in the opening round of playoffs, a large reason the Yellow Jackets advanced past both the bi-district and area rounds since 2014.
