(August 10, 2017) — Stephenville finished second in its pool Thursday in the Leander Volleypalooza, one of the biggest volleyball tournaments in the Austin area and all of central Texas.
The 4A Honeybees won their first two best-of-three (as opposed to best-of-five) pool matches before suffering their fist loss of the season to a 6A opponent, all at Premier Athletic Complex in Leander.
The opener was no trouble as they drew Round Rock Westwood’s junior varsity and dominated, especially in the second set, 25-19, 25-6.
The Bees came from behind for the second time in their first three matches of the season to beat 5A Bastrop, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19. They dropped their first set against 5A Burleson in their season opener at home in Gandy Gym Tuesday, only to dominate the next three sets in what was ultimately a comfortable win.
Pool winner Round Rock, with its last UIL enrollment figure of 3,185.5 (4A Stephenville turned in 1,040), proved to be an overwhelming presence, beating the Bees 25-10, 25-18.
Stephenville assistant coach Patti Williams just learned Friday’s schedule at 8 p.m. Thursday, telling The Flash Today the Honeybees face round Rock Westwood, Round Rock Stoney Point and Cedar Park Vista Ridge at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
The Honeybees are home again next Tuesday when they host Abilene Cooper with first serve between 6:30 and 7 p.m. following junior varsity match at 5:30.
