Football: Kevin Yeager, Jr., QB/FS, De Leon Bearcats

Kevin Yeager has been putting up big numbers each week and doing it mostly in a half to three quarters in blowout victories. His latest showing while playing three quarters – 18-26 passing for 183 yards and 4 TDs while rushing for 56 ears and a fifth score. Oh, he plays defense, too, and made 11 tackles to with a broken up pass as De Leon jumped ahed 42-7 and beat Cross Plains 42-19. They have outscored their opponents 145-19 this season, with 50-0 and 53-0 shutouts preceding last Friday’s victory. Santo is up next, and could be in for a long night, even at home.

Volleyball: Salette Rios, Jr., OH, Stephenville Honeybees

Rios has been a steady performer throughout the season for the Honeybees. Playing primarily left side, she posted a pair of double-digit kill totals in two Stephenville wins to get started in District 8-4A. She had 21 kills in six sets over last week, 3.5 per set in sweeps of Godley and Alvarado. To say the competition ramped up this week for Stephenville is a little like saying DQ is popular in Texas. The Honeybees have already fallen in straight sets at home to No. 3 Midlothian Heritage – the second set was epic at 36-34 – and make the short trip to Tiger Arena in Glen Rose to face the No. 1 team in 4A at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
