TexAnns cruise by Cameron for seventh straight win

STEPHENVILLE (October 6, 2017) – Tarleton cruised to its seventh consecutive win as the No. 15 TexAnns swept n in a Lone Star Conference showdown at Wisdom Gym Friday night. The TexAnns will return to action for ‘Pink Out’ day tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Midwestern State.

Tarleton was forced to rally back early as Cameron came out swinging to the tune of an 8-3 lead in the opening set, but a kill and a service ace from Amber Strange on back-to-back points started a dominant 13-4 run for Tarleton to put the TexAnns up 16-12.

After Cameron pulled back within two, Hailey Roberts landed a kill to start the set-clinching 9-3 run – which Adriana Darthuy ended with a kill shot for the 25-17 win.

The second set saw more of the back-and-forth battle as the set was tied through the opening 26 points at 13-13. Tarleton quickly pulled away with two Cameron errors and a block from Roberts and Strange and carried the lead to set point at 24-21. Cameron clawed back, however, and scored four unanswered to take an extra-point advantage at 25-24 before Roberts took over in dominant fashion by landing three consecutive kills to win the set 27-25.

In the final set, Tarleton jumped out to a 14-3 lead and never looked back as the TexAnns cruised to a 25-10 victory, capped off by Strange’s second ace of the match.

Roberts and Darthuy combined for 26 kills with 13 each. Roberts hit .500 for the match while Darthuy boasted a .370 hitting clip. Adrianna Knutson led the team with 11 digs while Jordyn Keamo (26) and Blanca Izquierdo (12) combined to dish out 38 assists on the night.

The TexAnns will host Midwestern State tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Wisdom Gym on ‘Pink Out’ day.
