STEPHENVILLE (November 8, 2017) — Tarleton Volleyball is ranked No. 2 in the second South Central regional rankings of the season, which were released to NCAA.com Wednesday afternoon.
Tarleton is 24-5 overall and won its second Lone Star Conference regular season championship in school history with a sweep of Cameron last Saturday. With that title, the TexAnns have won the right to host the LSC Championship Tournament next week.
The TexAnns trail only Regis University in the poll and are sitting ahead of Colorado Mines, Angelo State, and Metro State, respectively, in the top five. Rounding out the bottom five of the poll are Arkansas-Fort Smith, Texas A&M-Commerce, West Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Kingsville, and Colorado Mesa, respectively. There were no changes in the poll from the first week.
The top eight teams in the regional rankings at the end of conference tournament championship weekend will advance to the NCAA postseason. The conference tournament champions are guaranteed an automatic berth into the playoffs, which could affect the rankings if a non-regionally ranked team wins their respective tournament and earned the berth.
The South Central region is comprised of the Lone Star Conference, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, and the Heartland Conference. The regional tournament will be played at the home gym of the highest seed during the first weekend of December.
Tarleton will host Western and Eastern New Mexico this weekend for the regular season finale in Wisdom Gym. The TexAnns and Mustangs will play Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 12 p.m. before holding a postgame ceremony to recognize seniors Jordyn Keamo, Chandler Gow, and Hailey Roberts after Saturday’s game.
