(November 20, 2017) — With the senior leaders struggling in Eastland Tuesday, Jayci Morton shouldered the load and carried No. 9 Stephenville to victory with a career-high 31 points.
Hailey Martin, who had 15 points at Granbury six days prior, and Tess Baker each fought foul trouble, throughout the evening, and neither scored until Martin hit a 3 in the fourth, one of just two Honeybee field goals in the final stanza. Payton Wall scored only two points, giving the threesome only five between them.

But even with Taylor Herrington pouring in 18 and Savannah Blount 14 for the Lady Mavs, Morton saved the day with nine points in each first two quarters and seven in each of the last two.
Morton did all her fourth-quarter scoring from the foul stripe, going 7-8 in the period and 15-19 for the game. She helped Stephenville to a 32-24 halftime lead and kept the points coming after Eastland pulled within 42-37 at the end of the third.
Hannah Bernays is still learning the varsity ropes but appeared to belong with nine points including one of only three 3-point shots that went down for the Bees, the others coming from Morton and Martin.
Jordan Carter scored six, Kristen Pettit two and Madison Carter two.
Another formidable 3A opponent is headed into Stephenville Tuesday as Jacksboro visits Gandy Gym. They are playing at 12:30 p.m., the earlier than normal start time possible because school is out all week for Thanksgiving.
