(December 7, 2017) — Athletes from the Cowboy Capital of the World pocketed roughly $100,000 on opening night of the 2017 National Finals Rodeo Thursday at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Kaleb Driggers and heeler Junior Nogueira roped head and heels in a blistering 4.1 seconds to pocket more than $26,000 each as the round-one team roping winners in a field of 30 ropers with 16 representing Stephenville, Erath County and the area.
Heeler Paul Eaves was part of a third-place finish, while Huckabay header Charly Crawford was involved in a split of fourth and fifth. Eaves was awarded more than $15,000 and Crawford more than $8,000.
Barrel racers Kassie Mowery and Tillar Murray also started fast, Mowery coming in second just four-hundredths of a second out of first with a run through the clover leaf of 13.68 seconds for more than $20,000. Murray, meanwhile, place fifth in 13.89 and earned over $4,000.
