GLEN ROSE (December 19, 2017) – No. 7 Glen Rose (12-2, 2-0) dominated he second half and erased a seven-point deficit to hand No. 15 Stephenville (9-7, 1-1) a 36-34 District 8-4A loss Tuesday evening at Tiger Arena.

Once Glen Rose halted the turnovers, the Lady Tigers instead turned the tables on Stephenville, which scored the final five points but saw a desperation 3 at by Hannah Bernays clang off the front rim and miss.

Glen Rose had 10 turnovers and trailed 21-14 at halftime but just three giveaways in the second half, when Stephenville committed nine of its 14. The Lady Tigers didn’t just take the ball away, they cashed in those opportunities to outscore the Bees 15-6 in the third.

Laiken McAnear led all scorers with 10 including the tying basket before Ally Andress stole the ball and knocked down a fast break just before the buzzer for a 29-27 lead for the Lady Tigers, who scored a point more in the period than in the entire first half.

Four points off turnovers to begin the fourth quarter padded that Glen Rose lead before Hailey Martin finally banked in a pull-up 15 footer to bring the Bees within four.

Having to foul late in the period, the Bees said goodbye Martin and moments later Jayci Morton also fouled out. The Lady Tigers, however, hit just one more shot from the floor when McAnear made it 35-29.

Tesslie Baker scored inside for Stephenville with 1:10 remaining, and Glen Rose added a Baker fee throw with 42 seconds to play.

Jordan Carter missed a 3, but an offensive rebound gave her another chance and the senior point guard made it rain this time to pull the Bees within one with 2.4 seconds left.

Glen Rose almost opened the door wide open, but coach Ramsey Ghazal called timeout just before a five-second violation in the wake of intense full-court pressure by Stephenville. The Lady Tigers got it in the second time with a long pass to McAnear. She was immediately fouled by Baker and made the first free throw. But her second foul shot was an air ball that went out of bounds untouched with no time coming off the clock.

Stephenville got what it needed – a completed cross-court pass and a look. But the Bees also needed it to go, but the bounce off the rim, just like almost every bounce of the second half, worked in favor of the Lady Tigers.

Ally Andress and Hailey Ibarra added eight Glen Rose points to McAnear’s double-digit performance.

Stephenville, which lost for the third time in four games, was led by Martin and Jordan Carter with seven points each. Baker scored six , Morton four, Bernays four, Payton Wall three and Madison Carter three.

It was the final contest of 2018 for both teams. The Honeybees resume play at home against Venus on January 2 and visit No. 13 Midlothian Heritage on January 5.
