STEPHENVILLE (January 27, 2018) — Tarleton State (12-8, 7-4 completed its second straight sweep of top rival Midwestern State (6-14, 3-8) Saturday, taking control with a 12-2 run to begin the second half of an 87-75 Lone Star Conference win at Wisdom Gym.

MSU pulled within four late in the game, but Corinthian Ramsey drove and dealt an assist to Jesse Hill, then Deshawn Riddick penetrated and dropped the ball off to Jaraan Lands for another easy bucket in the paint. Riddick added another assist on the ensuing Tarleton possession, driving and kicking out to Ramsey for a right wing 3.

Ramsey was impressive again with 23 points on 8-13 shooting. He was 4-7 from the arc after going 5-9 and scoring 29 points Thursday. Riddick scored 16 points and dealt five assists while Ramsey had five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Lands scored 17  and grabbed seven boards. Josh Hawley played just 20 minutes, scoring all his points by going 8-8 from the foul stripe while collecting 10 boards.

Midwestern led 36-35 at halftime. Devante Pullum scored 19 before the break but was silenced in the second half and finished with 21. Brandon Neel scored 27 while Ola Ayodele scored nine and grabbed 10 boards.

TEXANS LEAD SERIES:
A second straight season sweep of MSU gives Tarleton its longest win streak against the Mustangs (5) in the history of the rivalry. The Texans now lead the series with 29 wins and 27 losses.

BEING EFFICIENT:
Corinthian
Ramsey scored 52 points this week but it wasn’t the number of points he scored that most impressed Tarleton head coach Lonn Reisman. Its that he did it on 28 total shots for the week and dealt 12 assists. Ramsey was 9-15 on Thursday, when he missed a late free throw that would have given the junior guard from Mansfield his third 30-point outing this season.

FIRST TO 80:
Tarleton improved to 5-1 when scoring 80 or more points. The Texans are 0-3 when the opponEnt scores 80 and 0-1 when both do.

BETTER AND BETTER:
Tarleton brought in a bevy of first-year players this season, some freshmen and others transfers. Nothing has come easy, though head coach Lonn Reisman agrees they already look more seasoned than before Christmas break. They have won four of their last five and are fourth in the LSC standings shown below:
