(March 21, 2018) — Backed into a corner, the Stephenville boys soccer team came out fighting.

The result has been awe-striking – now five straight wins and a chance to claim a district co-championship in tough 4-4A.

The Yellow Jackets handed Wylie a defeat for the second time in district play Tuesday, with a long pass behind the defense by JJ Saldana setting up Kevin Martinez for the only goal while the Yellow Jacket defense turned in another clean sheet.

Stephenville is one back of Wylie entering the final matches for all 4-4A teams on Friday. Stephenville hosts Brownwood, which has yet to win a district match, at Lem Brock Field, while Wylie faces off with Mineral Wells, both at 7 p.m.

If Wylie beats Mineral Wells, the Bulldogs still win the district title outright,. If Mineral Wells wins, the Rams tie the Bulldogs, and if Stephenville handles Brownwood for the third time (the Jackets have beat the Lions 3-0 and 5-1) the title will be split three ways. Goals against would be the tie breaker used for seeding purposes entering the playoffs.

If Wylie and Stephenville win Friday, Stephenville comes in second. If Stephenville does not take care of its own businesses and loses to Brownwood, the Yellow Jackets finish third. All four teams will advance to the playoffs.
