STEPHENVILLE (March 22, 2018) – Stephenville ISD hosted the second annual Special Olympics at Lem Brock Field Thursday.
Sixty-three athletes competed in track and field events such as softball throwing, a mini javelin through, 50-meter wheelchair slalom and more.
“This year we have athletes from Stephenville, Dublin, Lipan, Lingleville, Hico and Rock House,” Stephenville ISD Special Olympics Coordinator and special education ARD coordinator at Chamberlin Elementary Sabrina Carter said. “These athletes are ages eight to 21 years and have cognitive or developmental disabilities.”
This year the Special Olympics coordinated with Tarleton State University and over 150 students will volunteer at the event as part of Tarleton’s annual Service Day. Other community members have donated time and money as well.
