STEPHENVILLE – After a stellar debut season for the Texans, Tyrell Thompson was named to the Don Hansen NCAA Division II Honorable Mention All-America team Thursday morning.

Thompson shined in his first season for the purple and white as the Copperas Cove native finished the regular season fourth on the team in total tackles (55) and second on the team in tackles for a loss (9.0). He also led the team and was top-10 in the LSC in sacks (4.5 while adding seven quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles, two of which were returned for touchdowns by a teammate.

The defensive tackle was an All-Lone Star Conference First Team honoree last fall.

This is the 74th All-American honor in the history of the Texan Football program and the fourth consecutive season that an All-American has donned the purple and white – Charles Moore (2014), Le’Nard Meyers (2015), Cody Burtscher(2016), Thompson (2017).

The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield , Ill., started and published Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen’s Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.
