Tarleton receives awards for photography, social media campaign, signage

STEPHENVILLE (March 27, 2018) — For the sixth-straight year, Tarleton State University’s Department of Marketing and Communications earned recognition from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

In the social media campaign category, the university received a Silver Award for its “30 Days, 30 Ways” philanthropic efforts. The social media campaign launched in November 2017, allowing the Office of Development to rebrand the hashtag #TarletonGives to encompass the many ways the university’s students and programs serve others.

#TarletonGives served as Tarleton’s call to donors, and its sole purpose—prior to the recent campaign—was to solicit gifts on special days such as Giving Day, Giving Tuesday and North Texas Day of Giving. The goal of the “30 Days, 30 Ways” campaign was to introduce Facebook followers to the programs, opportunities and impact that donors’ gifts promote and enhance.

Followers were exposed to the Tarleton Laboratory for Wellness and Motor Behavior that offers free physical therapy to those who have run out of resources; support for children entering the foster care system; equine-assisted therapy to people underserved by traditional rehabilitation through Tarleton’s T.R.E.A.T. program; and care for homeless animals and more.


The campaign showcased 30 ways Tarleton supports the communities it serves throughout Texas and around the world. The effort’s mission was for potential contributors to associate the hashtag with ways Tarleton gives back and serves others, and for donors to understand the far-reaching value of their contribution.

Tarleton photographer Kurt Mogonye won a Bronze Award for “The Reel Life,” a collection of images featuring members of the Tarleton Bass Fishing Club during an outing at nearby Squaw Creek Reservoir, in the Color Photography Series category. Several award-winning images submitted in the CASE contest were recently published in the Spring 2018 issue of “Tarleton” magazine.

In addition, the Marketing & Communications team earned a Bronze Award in the Out of Home Media category for its “Engineering Our Future” construction banner, currently on display along Washington Street near the site of the university’s new Engineering Building. The banner features images of current students enrolled in the Department of Engineering & Computer Science as well as an architectural rendering of the newest academic facility, currently under construction on the Stephenville campus.

Staff from Marketing and Communications received the awards Monday, March 26, during the annual CASE District IV Conference in Fort Worth. District IV includes community colleges, independent schools and four-year institutions from five states.

“Receiving CASE awards for excellence is an honor for any university, especially considering that our work is compared to all participating institutions in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico,” said Dr. Kyle McGregor, vice president for the Division of Institutional Advancement. “This is the sixth year in a row Tarleton has received such recognition, which is directly attributable to the great work of a team of exceptionally talented professionals.”
