STEPHENVILLE – Tanna Huie was named one of two NCAA Division II Players of the Week by FastpitchNews.com Tuesday morning after leading the TexAnns to seven wins in five days last week.
Huie hit .500 for the TexAnns last week to lead Tarleton to the TexAnns’ 12th consecutive win and second straight 30-win season. The junior outfielder recorded multi-hit performances in four of the seven games, including a three-hit performance in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader against St. Mary’s.
For the week, Huie had 10 hits, including five for extra bases, to go along with seven runs scored and seven RBI. She also didn’t strikeout a single time over the last seven games.
Defensively, she boasted a 1.000 fielding percentage in the outfield with 10 putouts and one assist, which came in the fifth inning of Friday’s second game against Western New Mexico when she connected with Elizabeth Svienty and Nyka Wood for a perfect relay to cut down a Mustang runner at the plate to keep Tarleton’s 8-0 shutout intact.
This is Tarleton’s first-ever recognition from FastpitchNews.com and Huie joins Jordan Withrow to claim weekly recognition this week. Withrow was named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week yesterday.
Withrow and the TexAnns will head to San Angelo this weekend for a three-game series with the Rambelles, beginning Thursday at 7 p.m.
