STEPHENVILLE – Megan Durante was named a first-team infielder on the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division II Softball Team, making her the first player in program history to earn national academic recognition.

“This is an incredible accomplishment for Megan and I couldn’t be prouder of her,” said head coach Mark Cumpian. “She is one of the hardest working people I’ve ever been around and to be named one of the 11 best and brightest players in the country is amazing. I wish her nothing but the best as she moves on to her next stage of life.”

The Google Cloud Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations. Durante is one of 11 players and four infielders to earn first-team honors.

She was an Academic All-District First Team honoree by CoSIDA earlier this year, as well as racking up second-team All-LSC honors and her second straight LSC Gold Glove at first base. She hit .405 in her final season at Tarleton with 14 home runs and 54 RBI while boasting a .985 fielding percentage at first. Her 58 runs scored were the second-most in a season in program history.

As a program, Tarleton has had nine players named Academic All-District but Durante is the first one to be named Academic All-America.
