STEPHENVILLE – There’s going to be one home event in Stephenville this week – and it’s a big one.

No. 24 Tarleton Volleyball will welcome rival Angelo State to town for a Lone Star Conference showdown between national power Tuesday night at 7 p.m. After that, volleyball and football will hit the road for the weekend with volleyball at West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico on Friday and Saturday and football at West Texas A&M on Saturday.

Tarleton Volleyball opened Lone Star Conference play with back-to-back wins over Texas Woman’s and No. 17 Texas A&M-Commerce last weekend. Both of Tarleton’s opponents started the weekend with a 6-2 record. Tarleton handled Texas Woman’s in straight sets on Friday night before rallying back from a 2-1 deficit to Commerce on Saturday to win in five for their first nationally-ranked win of the season. Tarleton will play Angelo State on Tuesday at 7 p.m., West Texas A&M Friday at 7 p.m. in Canyon, and Eastern New Mexico Saturday at 1 p.m. CT in Portales.

Tarleton is currently 8-2 on the season and 2-0 in LSC action. With those eight wins, Tarleton is now 29 wins away from 700 all-time in program history while head coach Mary Schindler is 29 wins away from 300 in her career. Senior libero Adrianna Knutson is also chasing history as she is 72 digs away from tying Emily Klein for the second-most all-time at Tarleton.

Texan Football is still 1-0 after last Saturday’s game in Nacogdoches against FCS Stephen F. Austin was cancelled due to weather. The evening included nearly two hours of delays and, with no end in sight, was eventually cancelled by Stephen F. Austin officials at 8 p.m. Tarleton will get back to action on Saturday in Canyon when the Texans open Lone Star Conference play at 6 p.m. against West Texas A&M.

Tarleton Football is looking to bring its all-time program record back to an even .500. The Texans currently boast an all-time mark of 473-480-33. Head coach Todd Whitten is also three wins shy of 60 in his Tarleton career. Only W.J. Wisdom (1920-35) has at least 60 wins as the head coach of the program.
