No. 13 TexAnn Golf in third after opening round of Tarleton Invitational in Glen Rose

GLEN ROSE – No. 13 Tarleton Women’s Golf is in third place and eight strokes off the lead after round one of its season-opening tournament of the Tarleton Invitational at Squaw Valley Golf Course.

The TexAnns shot a 295 (+7) while St. Edward’s leads the eight-team tournament with a score of 287 (-1). Texas A&M-Commerce is three strokes ahead of the TexAnns in second with a 292.

Junie Khaw is one stroke off the individual lead with a 2-under-par 70 and is tied for second. Khaw had a bogey-free round and added a pair of birdies. Khaw was one-under on the front nine and one-under on the back. The sophomore topped all players with 16 pars in the round and also leads the field in Par 4 scoring at 3.90 (-1).

Freshman Raelynn Hardgrave made her NCAA debut with a 73 (+1) in the opening round and is tied for seventh place. Hardgrave birdied her first hole and followed with 10 straight pars. Overall, Hardgrave finished with two birdies and 13 pars in the round.

Breanna Smith and Casey Leatherman each shot a 76 (+4) on the day and are tied for 18th. Smith recorded a pair of birdies and had nine pars while Leatherman carded 14 pars, which tied for second among the field.

Louise Caldon and Sophie Caldon, who are twins and freshman from England, both shot a 77 (+5). Louise had two birdies and 10 pars in the round while Sophie, playing as an individual, had a birdie and 11 pars in their debuts.

The TexAnns will tee off in the final round with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
