
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Texas A&M-Commerce was selected to prevail by a slim margin as the Lone Star Conference football champions according to the 2018 LSC preseason poll announced Tuesday.
The league’s preseason poll reflects the opinions of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region.

A&M-C, who won the NCAA Division II National Championship last year, earned first-place votes on 13 of the 24 ballots to total 201 points. The Lions were 14-1 overall and 7-1 in league play in 2017.
Midwestern State, the defending LSC Champions with a perfect 8-0 league mark, received 10 first-place nods to finish a close second with 200 points following a 10-1 season last year.
Eastern New Mexico ranked third with 142 points in front of Angelo State (136) and Tarleton State (130). Texas A&M-Kingsville (104), West Texas A&M (73), UT Permian Basin (57 with one first-place vote) and Western New Mexico (37) rounded out the poll.
The season kicks off Thursday, August 30 and the LSC has nine teams set to compete in 2018. Each team will play eight conference games to determine the LSC Champion.
Four LSC teams participated in postseason play last season, with A&M-C and MSU advancing to the NCAA Division II playoffs, ASU playing in the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl, and TSU in the Corsicana Bowl.
