STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton’s all-time leader in saves has found a home in professional baseball with the Windy City Thunderbolts of the Frontier League (Independent).
Eddie Avila, who is the first Texan from last season’s LSC Tournament Championship team to sign with a professional organization, signed with the organization on June 12 and has transitioned from the closer role to a starting job and has posted back-to-back victories for the ‘Bolts. The native of Fort Worth shined Friday night in his most recent start by throwing 6.0 shutout innings, allowing four walks and striking out 11.
This is Avila’s second consecutive victory for Windy City and the second professional win of his career.
Avila is one of two Texans currently playing professional baseball, joining Pete Perez who is pitching for the New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am (Canadian-American Association) League. He becomes the sixth pitcher from Tarleton since 2011 to pitch professionally.
