STEPHENVILLE – Head Coach Misty Wilson has announced the 2018-19 Tarleton Women’s Basketball schedule that officially begins at home on Nov. 9 with the TexAnn Tip-Off Classic.

Before the tournament, the TexAnns will start with a pair of exhibition games at home on Nov. 1 against Texas Wesleyan and Nov. 3 against Hardin Simmons.

This season, the TexAnns will play a 28-game schedule, including 15 home games in Wisdom Gym. The schedule consists of eight non-conference games and 20 Lone Star Conference matchups.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how we respond to the challenge of our schedule,” said Wilson, who is going into her fifth year as head coach. “While we don’t have the major Division 1 exhibition game this year, we have an extremely challenging schedule. A schedule that I believe will again prepare us to be our best come postseason.”

The TexAnn Tip-Off Classic features a pair of Heartland Conference opponents in Rogers State on Nov. 9 and St. Mary’s on Nov. 10. The TexAnns will travel to California for a pair of games against Biola on Nov. 15 and Cal-Poly Pomona on Nov. 21.

Rounding out the non-conference schedule, the TexAnns will host a pair of South Central Regional Tournament qualifiers last year in Lubbock Christian, who made the NCAA Elite Eight, on Nov. 21 and Arkansas-Fort Smith on Dec. 19. They’ll also travel to Austin to take on St. Edwards on Dec. 14.

“In our non-conference lineup, we have two teams from our region that were in the NCAA tournament last year in Arkansas-Fort Smith and Lubbock Christian, who won the NCAA Regional Tournament,” Wilson added. “We also have St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s who have competed consistently in the top of the Heartland Conference, as well as Rogers State who continues to improve every year in its standing in the Heartland Conference.

“On our road trip to California, we play a team coming off 20 wins and is in the national talk every year in Cal Poly Pomona. In that game, I will get to coach against a former teammate from Tarleton State, Danelle (Liles) Bishop, so that will be great to touch base with her and have that healthy competition against a great opponent.”

Lone Star Conference play begins on Nov. 29 when the TexAnns host Texas A&M-Kingsville followed by Angelo State on Dec. 1. From Jan. 3-19, the TexAnns will play five of its six LSC games on the road, but turn around on Feb. 7-23 with five of six conference games at home. They’ll close the regular season out with a road trip to UT Permian Basin on March 2.

The Lone Star Conference Tournament returns to Frisco this season from March 7-10 at Dr Pepper Arena.

Tarleton is coming off a 20-12 campaign where they advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament for the second straight year under Wilson.

“Overall, I think it is again a schedule that will challenge, and test us consistently from start to finish,” said Wilson. “I believe we have a more veteran team this year that will respond and learn together throughout the season.”
