Tarleton takes #15 ranking on the road against #22 Texas A&M Commerce

AT A GLANCE

No. 15 Tarleton gears up for an AVCA top-25 showdown against Lone Star Conference rival No. 22 Texas A&M-Commerce tonight at 6 p.m. in Commerce followed by another road match at Texas Woman’s on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. Tarleton enters this weekend’s matches with a 15-match winning streak – one off from setting a school record for consecutive wins – while A&M-Commerce currently has a 10-match winning streak.

NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT

Tarleton moved up two spots to No. 15 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. Tarleton is one of two Lone Star Conference schools in the top 25, joining Texas A&M-Commerce who is ranked 22nd. Tarleton has been ranked in every poll since the final ranking of the 2016 season, which is 23 consecutive weeks in the national spotlight.

ABOUT TARLETON

Tarleton enters the weekend leading the way in the Lone Star Conference standings with an 18-2 record overall and a 10-0 mark in the league. Tarleton is also among the national leaders in blocks per set (3.01) which ranks second in the nation and also the conference leader in hit percentage (.251). Adriana Darthuy leads the team with 209 kills while Hannah McManus, a recent two-time LSC Defensive Player of the Week, leads the team and conference with 1.46 blocks per set. Blanca Izquierdo is leading the team with 401 assists and Adrianna Knutson leads in digs with 308.

DIGGING FOR A MILESTONE

Adrianna Knutson, Tarleton’s senior libero, is currently chasing down the all-time mark for digs at Tarleton State University. Knutson enters this weekend with 1,724 career digs and recently passed Emily Klein (1,656) for No. 2 in program history. She is 124 digs away from passing Shea McBrearty (1,847) for the all-time lead.

CRACKING THE TARLETON TOP 10

Hannah McManus is making her own history at Tarleton as the senior middle blocker enters the weekend having recently passed Lacey Adkisson for sixth place on the all-time total blocks list with 338. She is also second all-time in assisted blocks with 278 having recently passed Kenya Alexander. McManus needs 57 assisted blocks to pass Marissa Galich (334) on the all-time list.

SERIES HISTORY: TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE

Tarleton and Texas A&M-Commerce are meeting for the 41st time in program history since they first met in 1984. Tarleton leads the all-time series 21-19, including a five-set thriller over the then-No. 17 in the Wisdom Volleyball Gym.

SERIES HISTORY: TEXAS WOMAN’S

This will be the 59th career meeting between Tarleton and Texas Woman’s since the first match was played in 1978. TWU holds the series lead at 33-25, but Tarleton has won the last eight matches, including a three-set sweep at home on Sept. 7 against the Pioneers.

Tarleton will travel to Angelo State on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Junell Center.
