Tarleton is the No. 2 seed in NCAA Super Region 4 and will host an NCAA playoff football game for the first time in school history this weekend when the Texans play No. 7-seed Azusa Pacific at 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

Minnesota State-Mankato edged out Tarleton for the No. 1 seed in Super Region 4 while Minnesota State-Duluth earned the No. 3 seed and will host Texas A&M-Commerce this Saturday. The winner of Duluth-Commerce will play the winner of Tarleton-Azusa the following week at the home of the highest remaining seed. Azusa Pacific earned the final spot in the ranking after beating Central Washington Saturday afternoon, jumping previously-ranked MSU Texas for the final spot in the bracket.

Azusa Pacific is 8-3 on the season with a 7-1 conference record as a member of the Great Northwest American Conference.

The final matchup of the region is a showdown between RMAC rivals, Colorado Mines and Colorado State-Pueblo. The winner of that matchup will travel to Makato, Minn. next weekend to take on the top-seeded Mavericks, who received a bye in the seven-team bracket.

The Texans just completed their first-ever undefeated regular season as an NCAA institution with a 10-0 mark on the season and earned the outright LSC championship with a 9-0 mark in league play. This is Tarleton’s fourth trip to the NCAA playoffs, the third under head coach Todd Whitten, and the first since 2009.
