The best offensive and defensive player in the Lone Star Conference last week wore the same number for Tarleton as Kaylee Allen garnered the league’s Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards after leading the TexAnns to an upset of No. 10 Lubbock Christian.
Allen was spectacular for Tarleton as the TexAnns upset No. 10 Lubbock Christian 67-56 last Wednesday, handing the Lady Chaps their first loss of the season. She led the team with 17 points on 6-12 shooting from the floor, including 3-4 from downtown, and 2-2 at the charity stripe. Allen also grabbed two rebounds and dished out two assists.
In addition to her work on offense, she put together a career game on the defensive end with eight steals as she led Tarleton in forcing 26 turnovers. The 26 turnovers for the Lady Chaps were the most since Ashland forced 28 on Nov. 24, 2017. Allen’s defensive efforts held Lubbock Christian to a season-low for points scored (56), field goal attempts (42), three-pointers made (3), and three-pointers attempted (12).
Allen is the first player to win both awards in the same week since Nov. 13, 2012.
Tarleton will be home this weekend to begin Lone Star Conference play. The TexAnns will host Texas A&M-Kingsville Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Angelo State Saturday at 2 p.m.
