Paced by a game-high 17 points from sophomore post Alle McClendon Stephenville opened first-quarter play with 22 points and never looked back in downing Grandview 52-34 at Gandy gym Tuesday night.
The Honeybees (9-2) got eight first-quarter points from McClendon with Madison Gilder, Hannah Bernays, Mikayla Diaz, and Jettie Funderburgh all getting in on the action for a 22-9 lead headed into the second quarter.
Stephenville slowed the pace down on offense while launching a stifling defense that allowed just five second-quarter points by Grandview.
Both teams offensive flow picked up in the second half with Grandview scoring 20 points, but the Bees’ keep the Zebras a bay with 24 points of their own and a final 52-34 score.
Stephenville returns to the hardwood Thursday as they open tournament play in the Great East Texas Shootout in Brownsboro. The Bees will tipoff against Hallsville in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
