Honeybees top Venus 43-29 at Gandy Gym

Stephenville’s Honeybees started stinging early and often as they jumped out to an early lead and coasted their way to a 43-29 win against Venus.
“Venus has shooters,” Coach Alan Thorpe said. “I’m glad to get out of here with a win tonight. Come out of a tournament I didn’t know how we would play, but we did well tonight.”

The Honeybees (13-3) moved out front 11-2 during the first quarter, and Thorpe was able to substitute his players and work his bench.

Hannah Bernays goes up for two points against Venus.

Hannah Bernays, Kassidy Nowak, Mikayla Diaz and Alee McClendon got things rolling for the Honeybees in the first quarter. Nowak led the scoring in the quarter with just four points and had a quiet 20-point game-leading performance that she spread evenly over four quarters of play.

Landri Withers looks over the Venus defense as the Bees set up the offense.

With a 23-13 lead at the half, the Honeybees backed off in the third quarter. The Bees got four three-pointers on the night with Madison Gilder, Autumn Nichols, Bernays and Nowak all dialing long distance once.
Scoring—Gilder 3, Nowak 20, Bernays 3, Withers 2, Diaz 5, McClendon 4, Nichols 5.
