Honeybees close out district play with a win, to play Krum Feb. 11 in Weatherford

The Honeybees are the District 7-4A champs after surviving a 28-26 scare against Brownwood Friday and Stephenville will face Krum in the first round of the state playoffs in Weatherford February 11.


Both teams played defensive-minded basketball from the start and Stephenville’s 6-4 lead after the first quarter was the difference maker.

The two teams tied each quarter the remainder of the way 7-7, 8-8 and 7-7. Stephenville held a 27-23 advantage when Brownwood pulled to within one point on a three-pointer to make it 27-26 with 1:04 remaining in play.

Madison Gilder’s free throw put the Bees up by two, but a foul with 4.58 seconds remaining gave Brownwood a chance before the shooter missed her free throw attempt.
Alee McClendon led Stephenville’s scoring with 10 points while Hannah Bernays had six, Jaci Morton scored 5 and Gilder had four.
