Mayor Doug Svien had some great news to share at Tuesday’s monthly city council meeting with the announcement Stephenville has been awarded a $1.98 million match fund grant to address disaster flooding issues that surfaced during storms in 2016.

The grant is coming from the Texas General Land Office and came about through work of Stephenville city staffers. The news got even better with Stephenville’s part of those matching funds being just $20,000.
“I want to thank Nick Williams and Sara Tankersley for getting this application together,” Svien said. “You guys really did a great job on this.”
The money will be dedicated toward solving the problem of flooding from Alexander Road to Lillian and Long streets. The areas were hard hit during heavy rainfalls that several times left cars and trucks flooded out when they attempted to pass through low spots.
“In the future, we will be looking at two additional areas to include Spring Bouquet,” Svien said. “Twenty thousand dollars for $1.98 million sounds like a pretty good return on your investment.”
