STEPHENVILLE – Georgia Capell and Amanda Conner combined for all six of Tarleton’s RBI in a 6-2 victory over No. 20 Angelo State Friday night to deliver the 100th career victory for third-year head coach Mark Cumpian.

With the win, Cumpian becomes the second-fastest coach in Tarleton’s senior-college athletics history to reach the 100-win plateau (in any sport). Cumpian notched his 100th career win in his 138th game at the helm of the Tarleton program, which is second only to Lonn Reisman (133 games) of the men’s basketball program.

Tarleton jumped out on No. 20 Angelo State in a hurry, starting with Capell’s first home run rocket of the evening. After Elizabeth Svienty led things off with a walk, Capell ripped a line-drive home run to dead center field to put Tarleton on top 2-0 quickly.

Tanna Huie and Destiney Crumpley ripped back-to-back singles and Karli Herron reached on a catcher’s interference to load the bases for Conner, who ripped a two-run double off the left field wall to put Tarleton on top 4-0 in the first.

That lead would carry into the fourth when Angelo State cut the deficit in half with a two-run inning, but Capell had a very mighty reply in the ensuing half inning as the sophomore All-American crushed one out to deep left center to push the lead back out to 5-2. The home run moved Capell sole possession of fifth place all-time in home runs (25) in program history.

Conner added an insurance run in the sixth with a home run off the scoreboard in left-center for the final score.

In the seventh, Jordan Withrow got a strikeout looking for the final out of the game to polish off a complete-game victory with 10 strikeouts. Withrow improved to 6-2 on the season.

Capell and Conner each had two-hit performances with three RBI while Crumpley added two hits of her own and Huie led the way with a three-hit performance to round out the offense.

Tarleton and No. 20 Angelo State will resume the series tomorrow in Stephenville with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
