ODESSA – Tarleton couldn’t quite complete the win in the series opener before the weather rolled in and the final half inning will be placed on hold until today at 1 p.m.
Tarleton got on the board in the second inning when Lexi Grimaldo and Elizabeth Svienty cashed in with RBI base hits to give the TexAnns a 2-0 lead. Grimaldo drove home Gracie King with a RBI single and Svienty plated Grimaldo with a double.
Tanna Huie and Karli Herron accounted for another two spot in the third and a 4-0 Tarleton lead when the seniors each teed off for solo home runs over the first three batters of the inning.
Two more runs came across in the fifth on a RBI double by Amanda Conner and a bunt single and an error that allowed Conner to come across for a 6-0 lead. Georgia Capell went yard to lead off the sixth and Herron later scored on a throwing error for Tarleton’s fourth two-run inning of the game.
The lightning came in the middle of the sixth and the game was halted until tomorrow. The teams will finish game one and then begin the regularly-scheduled doubleheader at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Odessa.
