Texan Golf finishes fifth at the RJGA Shootout in Arizona

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Tarleton Golf finished in fifth place in the 36-hole RJGA Shootout at Estrella.

The Texans entered the final round in second, but shot a 319 (+31) on the day. Overall, the Texans carded a 294-319—613 (+37). Cal State San Marcos won the tournament with a 593 (+17). For the tournament, the Texans totaled 91 pars and 21 birdies.

Junie Khaw led the Texans on the individual leaderboard with a 151 (+7), tying for seventh place. It’s the first top-10 finish of the year for Khaw and the second top-20 finish. Khaw had rounds of 70 and 81, totaling 21 pars and five birdies.

Sofia Rodriguez and Sophie Caldon each tied for 17th place with a score of 153 (+9). It’s the second top-20 finish this season for Rodriguez and first for Caldon. Rodriguez carded rounds of 75 and 78 while recording a team-leading 22 pars and adding four birdies. Caldon fired a 74 and 79 in the two rounds while posting a team-high six birdies to go with 19 pars.

Casey Leatherman shot a 156 (+12) with rounds of 75 and 81 to tie for 36th. Leatherman had five birdies and 16 pars overall. Breanna Smith rounded out the Tarleton scorecard with a 94-89—183 (+39).

Tarleton will compete in the UCO Classic in Edmond, Oklahoma on Sept. 30 – Oct. 1 at the Golf Club of Edmond.
