Class 4A’s No. 5 Honeybees (7-0) broke away from the 6A Lady Eagles with a 21-7 third-quarter run to top Abilene High on the road 54-40.
Landri Withers led the Bees during the third-quarter gallop as she scored 10 of her 16 points in the frame. Senior post Alee McClendon was equally impressive during the Bees’ big run, where she scored eight of her game-high 18 points.
The two teams exchanged blows throughout the first half as Abilene stuck with the Bees and trailed 24-22 at halftime. After Stephenville’s 21-7 third-quarter jaunt, there was little the Lady Eagles could do as Stephenville maintained its 14-point advantage.
Adding to Stephenville’s scoring was Mya Wesley with 9, Jade Wilson 7, Zoe Birdwell 2, Katie McIrvin 1, Jaylee Matthews 1.
Stephenville will put its undefeated record on the line in a top 5 matchup Friday as the Bees travel to No. 2 Fredericksburg. The Billies (9-1) are ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, and Fredericksburg’s only loss was to Class 5A Boerne-Champion. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
