Khaw posts second straight top-10 finish at UTRGV Invitational

MCALLEN, Texas – Junie Khaw had a top-10 finish for the second straight tournament to lead Tarleton Golf at the UTRGV Invitational.

As a team, Tarleton finished eighth with a score of 323-321-341—985 (+121), held at the McAllen Country Club. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won the tournament with a 306-295-305—906 (+42) at the Par 72, 6,024-yard course. The Texans totaled 128 pars, ranking fourth in the 10-team field, and also added 11 birdies.

Khaw carded a 77-76-77—230 (+14) to place tenth in the 54-hole tournament. The senior from Malaysia placed eighth two weeks ago at the Islander Classic. Khaw led the Texans with 33 pars, which ranked second among the 59 individuals. She also added a team-leading five birdies. Julie Lucio from UTRGV won the individual title with a 219 (+3).

Sofia Rodriguez had her highest finish of the season, placing tied for 25th with a score of 76-78-88—242 (+26). Rodriguez matched Khaw with 33 pars to rank second for individuals and also had a pair of birdies.

Alejandra Camronero tied for 43rd with a 253 (+37) in the three-round tournament, while Marianella Moreschi carded a 270 (+54) and Beatrice Grise followed with a 273 (+57).

Tarleton will travel to Houston for the Prairie View A&M Spring Invitational on March 15-16 at the Sterling Country Club.
