STEPHENVILLE – The Texans split their home stand with Dixie State falling in match two tonight in three sets against the Trailblazers.

Melina Maldonado and Kayla Brannon held things down on the court tonight with 31 assists between the two of them and Lauren Kersey led the team in kills with 13.

Tarleton kept things close in the first set not letting the score get away from them. The Texans went on a 3-0 scoring run towards the end of set one on a kill from Amber Strange, a service ace from Lorin McNeil and a Trailblazer error. Dixie State answered with a 5-2 scoring run and took set one.

The Trailblazers got their largest lead of the match in set two when they were up 15-4 on the Texans. Battling back the Texans were able to go on a couple of scoring runs but ultimately couldn’t make up the deficit falling 25-19 in set two.

The Texans were not going down without a fight in set three, falling behind early but rallying on a 6-0 scoring run to take the lead 11-8 before Dixie State called their first timeout. The timeout seemed to work for the trailblazers, as they bounced back, and 8-2 scoring run of their own. Carmen Kinsey fought until the finish in this set stringing together a kill and a block with an assist from Lorin McNeil to get the Texans within two but couldn’t shut down the Trailblazers.

Ana Costas and Isabel Gonzaba each compiled 18 digs on the night while Kersey, who led in kills, also posted seven more digs. Kinsey recorded six kills, three blocks and one dig.

The Texans return to Wisdom Volleyball Gym Thursday March 11 for a match against Big XII team Texas Tech. Frist serve is slated for 4 p.m.
