STEPHENVILLE – A busy spring is ahead for the Tarleton tennis team, who announced their 2022 schedule on Friday.

The Texans will participate in 23 matches next semester, hosting 10 of them in Stephenville at the Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts. The 10 home matches are the most Tarleton has slated in a single-season in at least 15 years.

March will be the busiest month for the Texans, with eight matches scheduled. There will be seven in February, four of which are at home, including the first one at Stephenville on Feb. 11. January sees five matches on the road, and April concludes the year with three total matches, two at home.

Tarleton will get a major test right out of the gate with a road match at Texas A&M on Jan. 16 in College Station at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The Aggies are 58-20 over their last three seasons. The following day on the same courts, the Texans will play a neutral match against McNeese. On Jan. 22, Tarleton plays another Power Five conference team on the road at Oklahoma, a double-header in Norman. On Jan. 28, the Texans will play at Lipscomb in Nashville, and their first month of the spring campaign will wrap up the next day at Belmont, also in Nashville.

It’s three road matches in three straight days to start the Texans’ February schedule, at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, on Feb. 4, at Louisiana Tech on Feb. 5 in Ruston, Louisiana, and finally, at Grambling State in Grambling, Louisiana, on Feb. 6. The first action at the Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts of the spring will take place Feb. 11, with Tarleton playing host to Southwestern. The Texans will spend the rest of the month at home against Montana State and UTPB on Feb. 18, and UTRGV on Feb. 20.

To begin March, Tarleton will play two matches in Phoenix at the GCU Tennis Facility against host Grand Canyon on March 4 and a neutral match against Dixie State on March 5. On March 8, the Texans will play a neutral site match against Missouri State at Southeastern Oklahoma’s campus in Durant, Oklahoma. The Texans return home for a match against Pacific on March 15 before two more neutral matches in Huntsville, Texas, against Lamar on March 19 and Stephen F. Austin on March 20 on the campus of Sam Houston. Tarleton will begin a four-match homestand on March 25 against UTEP, followed by a March 26 set against New Mexico State.

The Texans will take on Sam Houston and UTRGV on April 2-3 at home, and wrap up their season on April 8 at Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas.

Tarleton has had six straight years with a record of .500 or better. Last season, the Texans went 11-10, 5-1 in conference play, winning five of their last six matches. They finished second in the regular season in their first Western Athletic Conference season. In the fall of this season, the Texans participated in six events, last playing in their own Texan Invite on Oct. 22.
