STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton volleyball has added a highly-touted defensive specialist and libero to its roster ahead of the 2022 season.

Head coach Mary Schindler announced the signing of Isabella Martinez out of Hendrickson High School on Friday.

A native of Pflugerville, Texas, Martinez was a three-year letter winner for the Hawks under coach Carrie Sulak.

Martinez enjoyed an illustrious high school career. She racked up more than 1,000 career digs and concluded her prep career by landing 89 service aces during the 2021 season. Martinez was honored as the District 18-5A Co-Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year and named to both the AVCA Phenom List and AVCA All-Region Team following her senior campaign in 2021.

The addition of Martinez augments a winning culture already present at Tarleton.

Martinez was a key cog on the winningest team in Hendrickson HS history. The Hawks notched 40 victories in 2021 to set a program record for most wins in a single season.

She led Hendrickson to a 28-0 record in league play and consecutive district titles in 2020 and 2021. The Hawks posted a combined overall record of 59-10 from 2020-2021.

Martinez engineered a memorable playoff run in 2021, leading the Hawks to the TX UIL 5A regional semifinals. She covered the court throughout the Hawks’ march. Martinez finished with 28 digs in a bi-district win over Brenham HS and amassed 29 digs in a regional quarterfinal victory over A&M Consolidated HS.

She also played club volleyball for Austin Performance Volleyball for five years.

Martinez excels in the classroom as well, as she was a three-time Academic All-District honoree. She plans to major in legal studies at Tarleton.

Tarleton’s 2022 recruiting class now sits at five members. The Texans inked four prep standouts – Joselyn Roberson, Megan Hodges, Breanna McDonough, and Emma Burke – on the Initial Signing Date of Nov. 10.
