The community of Dublin is mourning the loss of 15-year-old Eddie Hernandez today after a two-vehicle accident took the young man’s life Thursday evening.
Just after 5 p.m., first responders were dispatched to a report of an accident on US Highway 67 at the intersection with County Road 258, near Ark Vet Clinic. Upon arrival, officials reported the accident to be a fatality.
According to a report from the Department of Public Safety, Highway Patrol officers were dispatched to investigate the two-vehicle fatality crash at approximately 5:14 p.m. on Thursday, April 7.
The report stated, “Preliminary investigation indicates a 2014 Nissan Sentra was stopped in the crossover on US 67 and attempted to cross northbound traffic to travel onto County Road 258. The Nissan failed to yield the right-of-way to a northbound Chevrolet pickup. The Chevrolet struck the Nissan in the passenger side. The driver of the Nissan, 15-year-old Eduardo Hernandez, of Dublin, died at the scene. The Chevrolet pickup driver, Gage Robinson, 20, of Stephenville, was not injured.”
Hernandez was a student at Dublin High School and played football for the Dublin Lions this past season. School officials said there would be counselors on hand if students needed to speak with someone. An account has been set up at First National Bank of Dublin to help the Hernandez family with funeral expenses.
