Sheriff’s Office makes arrest in Friday shooting

First responders were dispatched to a 9-1-1 call reporting a shooting in the county before noon on Friday, June 24.

According to Erath County Chief Deputy Jeremy Woodruff, “Shortly after noon today (6/24), deputies from Earth County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a shooting that had occurred at a location off of FM 3025 in Erath County. Deputies were told the victim was in route to the hospital suffering from a single gunshot wound.”

Woodruff said, deputies arrived on scene and detained a person of interest for questioning. The victim is at the hospital receiving medical attention at this time.

Ronald Oddo, 75, was taken into custody and booked into the Erath County Jail by ECSO for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the shooting in Erath County Friday morning.

Just after 5 p.m. on Friday, Erath County Sheriff Matt Coates announced the department had made an arrest in the case. He said Ronald Oddo, 75, was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection to the shooting. Oddo was booked into the Erath County Jail without incident.

The sheriff said the victim was taken to a Fort Worth area hospital and there is no update on his condition at this time.

Coates could not comment on details that lead up to the shooting or the relationship between the victim and Oddo at this time. He said no further information is available as the investigation is still ongoing.
